Abernethy Guitars Sonic Empress No. 196 3-Tone Sparkleburst Finish Medium Aging w/HSC
Relic Music is Obsessed and thrilled to be the east coast spot for Abernethy Guitars. These brilliant, individual one-off sonic works of art are handmade in Guadalupe, California; one at a time.
The Sonic Empress is the shape that our bud Justin Abernethy is probably most well-known for; and with good reason. It absolutely rules. This one is no exception...
If we had to pick a favorite, this one would most likely be it...I mean...look at it. I don't care who photographs this thing, pics absolutely do NOT do it justice. Let's start at the headstock...it is what we would call "Oxblood Sparkle" and it matches the outer edges of the burst on the body. The body starts with this gorgeous color, illustrating the phenomenal German Carve and ends in a lustrous gold sparkle stopping at places like Candy Apple Red and Orange Sparkle along the way. It is remarkable. The medium aging is done to perfection and the wear is in all the right spots and looks totally legit. It plays like a dream or butter...or a dream about butter. Or whatever you dream about that is awesome. The Chunky Slick C neck fits super comfy in your hand and the tempered/roasted quartersawn maple neck is smooth and silky. The rosewood board is nice and dark.
It features one of our favorite Gemini Pickup Combos (Mercury 1 in the bridge and DeArmond in the neck, a Descendant Trem and companion Bridge, Emerson Pots, vintage green russian paper and oil cap...this guitar is everything....and congrats in advance to whomever snags it!
