Used Kay Sizzler 4140 Vintage 1950s w/gb

A unique and clunky 1950s guitar from Chicago with a chunky neck that feels spectacular. It has the signature low output kinda lo-fi tone associated with the pancake pickups constructed by Kay. The pickup itself is pretty low in output and really needs to be pushed with a gain or boost, paired with the tone knob issue this guitar is being sold as-is. It's still play-able in its current state. Still, having Gemini or Novak re-work the pickup would probably do this guitar wonders tonally. This is the less commonly seen brown finish, the other color you'll see a gray concrete looking speckle.

  • Plextone body
  • Maple fretboard
  • Kay pancake pickup
  • 26" scale length
  • 19 brass frets
  • 1 volume and 1 tone (The tone knob currently does not function as the wax and paper capacitor was bad)
  • Kluson 3x3 vintage tuners
  • Wooden bridge with fixed intonation (definitely has some sag after all these years)
  • The guitar weighs 6 lbs 2 oz
  • Included is a gig bag
The guitar is a consignment piece here in the shop meaning all sales are final. It's being sold as is. Everything functions except the tone knob. It's acting as a volume control. Cosmetically the guitar has dings, wear and tear etc which is to be expected from something of this nature, especially for its age. There are no truss rods in these instruments so the action is ideal but plays well. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out and let us know!
