Non-Human Audio Robins 90s Distortion
We've been waiting on this one for a while...
The record that this pedal was inspired by was also the record that got this shop started (albeit way back when and quite indirectly). The first time I heard You'd Prefer an Astronaut I was totally moved and obsessed with the guitar sounds on that record. It made me pay attention to the notes themselves as well as what is happening in between the notes. The clean was like nothing I've ever heard (which threw me down an Orange/Hiwatt Rabbit Hole) and the dirty was EXACTLY what I wanted my dirty guitar to sound like. Thick, full, clear, and real. Robins does this. It is not a clone (of a DF-2 or anything else), but Non-Human Audio's ode to the dirty guitar sound on this record. Dave achieved it by ear, knowledge, persistence, and know how. And boy are we excited.
From Non-Human:
The Robins is a distortion pedal designed to evoke the feeling of listening to your favorite heavy 90s alt rock records. That’s it.
A few notes:
-It is very loud,start low.
-The EQ is designed in the style of a Fender amp tone stack. Start with all EQ knobs at noon and tweak to taste.
-There is a fair amount of sizzly high end by design, however If this is too intense for you there is an internal “hi-cut” Dipswitch. It is a subtle change, but it's there if you need it.
-There is a Boss pedal that is known to be have been used by Hum, Swervedriver, and My Bloody Valentine (among others), The Robins is not a clone of that pedal (it’s actually a very different design) but it can do a pretty good job sounding like it.Try the bass around 2-3 o’clock, the mids around 1 o’clock, and the treble around 10-11 o’clock.
