This Custom Shop R9 Les Paul is all around a wonderful example of the craftsmanship that the Gibson Custom Shop is capable of. It has all the qualities many of us look for in a Les Paul. The body is on the lighter side so it's lively and resonant. The neck profile is that great middle ground of filling your hand while not being too much to block you up. The unpotted Customerbucker Alnico III pickups are easily one of the best aspects of the instrument. They're airy and open with tons of clarity that really represent the era this model was originally introduced in. They're lower output humbuckers so they don't get too murky. It's an excellent re-creation of the originals that truly do them justice.
This one has a great top with even flame figuring throughout. The mahogany really shines with the cherry stain and pairs nicely with the Rosewood fingerboard that has some lovely coloration to it.
